Newport-based accountancy firm UHY Hacker Young has announced a record-breaking result for its specialist sports services.

Headed by client partner Elliott Buss, the past 12 months has seen the firm secure more than £100,000 in new fees.

The firm’s client list includes some of the UK’s leading stars from the world of UK and international sport.

With more than 80 top flight professional rugby players on the books, including ten members of the Lions Squad, UHY Hacker Young has become one of the country’s largest specialist sports accountancy service.

Outside of the Lions squad, the firm has developed a strong reputation with UK-based international players, including members of the New Zealand, South African, Australian national teams.

Mr Buss is credited with growing that list, which in addition to professional rugby players, includes Olympians and high-profile athletes from the world of cycling, golf, and athletics.

Elliott Buss said: “Wales is home to some of the world’s leading athletes and we are proud that our expertise and the quality service we provide is recognised as first choice by so many elite athletes. We are especially pleased with our success in attracting sporting clients from across the UK and abroad to bring their business to Wales.

“As a keen rugby player and sportsman, growing the profile of the sports services we provide has been a personal goal of mine ever since I joined the firm.

“The athletes we represent push themselves every day to achieve victory, and the pressures and personal risks they face are great. It is our pleasure to ensure that they are as equally prepared financially, as they are when they step on the pitch, course, or track.

“It’s a fact that careers in sport are relatively short and there are plenty of examples of stars, who failed to adequately prepare for a life after sport. Our service lets our clients can focus on their careers today, confident in the knowledge that we are working to ensure their future is protected.”
