NEWPORT city accountancy firm Phil Bessant Ltd is well on the way to hitting its target of raising £50,000 for St David’s Hospice Care.

The accountancy firm of Caerau Road, Newport, adopted St David’s Hospice Care as its nominated charity has completed a wide range of events to raise funds.

The accountants set themselves a target of raising £50,000 over five years and are within sight of their goal having raised £40,200.

Phil Bessant Ltd has recently staged a quiz night, race night, a golf Day at Woodlake Park and a beer mile at The Fugitives in Newport. The firm is also planning a wine and cheese evening, awards evening and Beaujolais Day, to be held as usual at The Lion, Blaenavon.

Phil Bessant Limited originally adopted St David’s Hospice Care as its charity of the year with the aim of raising £5,000 but soon realised it had had set its sights far too low.

Phil Bessant, MD of the practice, said: “We have already gone way beyond our initial target of raising £5,000 so we re set the bar at £50,000.

“Everyone in the office has been involved in the effort to raise money for St David’s Hospice Care. I am delighted at the sum of money we have managed to collect so far but the work goes on to achieve our ultimate target of £50,000.”

Tania Ansell, of St David’s Hospice Care, said: “Phil Bessant and his marvellous staff have worked tirelessly over the months in their efforts to raise money for the charity in so many different ways.

“We’re so grateful as all the money raised by Phil Bessant Accountants will help us to continue to fund the vital work that we deliver free of charge to people throughout our community.”
