Grant's Whisky is looking to test the mettle of their candidates on location at some of the world's most exciting cities, armed with a suitcase of Grant's whisky as part of a job interview for a new Global Brand Ambassador for 2018. Their journey will echo the legendary trip taken in 1909 by Charles Grant Gordon, the son in law of the founder of Grant's Whisky, William Grant. Charles set sail with a suitcase of Grant's and an ambition to introduce it to the world. And 110 years later, Grant's chosen Global Brand Ambassador will follow in his footsteps throughout 2018.

This week’s Big Question is: what is your dream job?

John Newell, director, Kingston Newell Estate Agents, Newport

Following the theme of the Grant’s Whisky example, wouldn’t it be great to be the Global Brand Ambassador for Sunseeker Luxury Yachts and sail around the world stopping off in the marine playgrounds of the rich and famous to show off the brand in a top of the range model of course! At Kingston Newell, we ask candidates at job interviews to review property particulars of houses we are marketing and sell the key benefits of each.

Leanne Fieldhouse, practice manager, Budget Vets

My dream job would be working at a protected animal sanctuary in Africa helping to save endangered species or to be involved with the Planet Earth documentary series and travel around the globe filming the wonders of nature. Depending on the role we are interviewing for, we will ask the candidates to demonstrate their skills in practical tasks (under careful supervision of course) so it will change depending upon the animals we have in the surgery on the day.

Paul Seaward, managing director, E-Warehousing, Pontypool

I have a passion for classic cars so my dream job would be organising track days for classic car owners at circuits across Europe. I would love the opportunity to drive these historic cars around the famous venues and get paid for it! Most of our staff in the warehouse are skilled fork lift operatives so we do set tasks for them to complete using our fleet so we can make sure they are safe, able to work under pressure and competent in their abilities.

Dan Smith, managing director of M4 Property Consultants

Running my own business has always been my ambition so I already have my dream job. Our interview process in more about getting to know potential team members, understand what they stand for, what their interests are, how they operate and what makes them happy. Hopefully, if they are the fit for us we can offer them a role which is exciting and fulfilling which means they will be happy and produce excellent work for or clients. I’m lucky in that I love my role and don’t really consider it work, I want others to feel the same. We spend a lot of time in work so it’s important to take enjoyment and satisfaction from it.

Matt Trevett, TMPR Marketing Communications, Newport

Having just returned from a week in West Wales, my dream job would be to own a pleasure boat taking tourists out into Cardigan Bay to see the wild dolphins and seals in their natural environment. It was magical experience and one I am sure I would never tire of. Perhaps I could tie that in with owning a pub in Tresaith or Aberporth to really put the icing on my cake! Back in the real world, I invite potential candidates into the office for a day and will set them writing or social media tasks to gain a better understanding of their capabilities and see how they will interact with clients.
