Christine Naluggwa is full of praise for the help given to her by Newport City Council’s business services team.

She has recently set up wig and hair extension salon Glossy Locks in the city centre’s Commercial Street.

Ms Naluggwa’s customers include women who have lost their hair following treatment for cancer and she finds it incredibly rewarding to be able to help them.

She has put a lot of hard work into transforming the premises and was grateful for the practical and financial assistance provided by the council.

She said: "I had to do so much and did a lot of work but it has been worth it. The council’s business team representative was so helpful and had all the time in the world for me.”

Glossy Locks received a city centre rent subsidy from the council which she is able to use to offset her costs during the important first year of business.

Councillor Jane Mudd, the council’s cabinet member for regeneration and investment, recently visited the salon and met Ms Naluggwa.

“It was great to see some with so much enthusiasm and commitment. Christine is clearly providing an excellent service, especially for some customers who are facing a difficult time in their lives. I’m delighted that the council have been able to assist her during these early days.”
