A kitchen business run by a family from Blaina which lost its showroom in a devastating fire last winter has unveiled its new premises with help from a celebrity guest and NatWest.

Dream Doors (Cardiff) was based at Blooms Garden Centre in St Mellons, near Newport, which was almost destroyed by a blaze last November.

Now the firm has moved into a new showroom on Whitchurch Road, Cardiff, with rugby star Adam Jones on hand to celebrate its official opening.

Husband and wife Ian and Karen Jenkins, of Blaina, have been running the franchise of Dream Doors for four years. The business specialises in services ranging from a kitchen overhaul involving replacement doors and drawers to the installation of complete new kitchens, and works throughout the whole of Wales.

Karen said: “We lost absolutely everything in the fire except some samples I had in my car. It was quite a knock-back, but I stayed positive throughout it, thinking ‘let’s get on with this and it will be great again’.”

Karen and Ian worked from their home in Blaina until they found their new premises, keeping on kitchen fitter Liam Siroko but having to say goodbye temporarily to showroom assistant Karen Rowles, who has now rejoined the business.

“We have had so much support from customers and suppliers,” said Karen. “That made us feel so much better, knowing that we weren’t on our own."

Karen and Ian also praised the support offered by their NatWest relationship manager Jo Aplin.

“Jo was on the phone as soon as she heard about the fire,” said Karen. “She wanted to know if there was anything she could do to help us.”

NatWest has now stepped in to help the couple celebrate their new start by arranging for Wales and British and Irish Lions prop Adam to be at the launch event, where he mingled with staff, customers, suppliers and friends of Dream Doors.

Kevin Morgan, NatWest’s regional director for Business Banking for Wales and Bristol, said: “What happened to Karen and Ian’s business last November was devastating, but through hard work and determination they have come out the other side and are now in a stunning new showroom.

“NatWest wanted to do all it could to help them celebrate this new start, and I’m thrilled that Adam was able to join us to mark the occasion.”
