St Joseph’s Hospital in Newport has further strengthened its clinical team with a key new appointment.

At an exciting time for the hospital – as an ambitious £7m investment plan gets under way to make it one of the best equipped in the UK – Newport-based Troy Wilson has taken on the role of clinical director of physiotherapy.

Having completed his physiotherapy training at the University of Otago in New Zealand, Troy, who now lives in Rogerstone with wife Ceri and their three children, moved to the UK in 1999. He went on to achieve a Masters degree in physiotherapy at the University of Birmingham and prior to his current position spent time working at the Royal Gwent Hospital and Ysbyty Ystrad Fawr.

Troy said: “I feel very fortunate to have this position at St Joseph’s. It really is an amazing opportunity to develop a physiotherapy centre of excellence that is fully integrated with other key clinical disciplines – providing continuity of care and the best possible all-round service to patients.

"St Joseph’s already has a firmly established physiotherapy and hydrotherapy service with an excellent reputation and I’m very much looking forward to being part of the hospital’s future vision. I will look to draw together all the best elements I’ve experienced working in both the public and private sectors into a patient-focussed service that is quality driven, evidence based and openly measured against national and international standards.”

St Joseph’s executive chairman Brian Staples said: “We have extremely ambitious plans for the hospital, which can only be achieved with the highest calibre individuals in key positions.

“Troy’s experience and level of expertise will add a new dimension to the hospital service and I’m delighted to welcome him on board.”
