Olympic gold and silver medallist Darren Campbell is in the blocks and poised to get cracking with some refreshing support for The Admiral City of Newport Half Marathon 2015.

Athens Olympic gold and Sydney Olympic silver medallist Darren, who runs a business based in Gwent, has been involved with the Newport half marathon, which supports St David’s Hospice Care, since its inauguration in 2013.

This year he will be helping runners along their way by providing 3,000 bottles of his isotonic drink.

Competitors will also be able to quench their thirst with bottles of Radnor Hills Water. The water firm has agreed to supply 12,000 bottles of the Welsh water to cover runners’ requirements at the three water stations along the route of the run as well as at the finish.

Former athlete and now sports business owner Darren has boosted his involvement even further this time.

He will again be the official starter of the race and is also a partner of the event through his Rhymney-based business Pro Athlete Supplementation Ltd.

Olympian Darren, ambassador for The Admiral City of Newport Half Marathon, said: “I'm delighted and honoured to have once more been approached to be involved in this event.

“Running has been my life and passion and I'm therefore thrilled to be able to be given this opportunity to be part of a successful and continuing initiative. The half marathon is helping to open up the sport to even more people and also to raise funds for a very worthy cause, St David's Hospice Care.”

PAS Ltd, which provides an array of international athletes with its products, is the official supplier of isotonic drinks to the Welsh Rugby Union and also the Football Association of Wales.

The Newport half marathon event organiser Kris Broome, of St David’s Hospice Care, said: “We’re thrilled that Darren has agreed to continue and indeed to grow his very much appreciated involvement with The Admiral City of Newport Half Marathon through his supply of the 3,000 bottles of isotonic drinks for entrants.

“Darren was there for us at the start of this increasingly significant event and we’re delighted that he is carrying through his involvement again to this year’s staging.”

The half marathon will be staged on St David’s Day, Sunday, March 1, 2015 starting at 9am from Westgate Square, in the heart of Newport.
