Two Newport women have started a business providing huge illuminated letters to people organising events around the area.

The team behind Light My Letters is Carol Phelps and Julie Williams.

Carol was an events co-ordinator at the University of South Wales and has experience of event management and understanding current themes within the events industry.

Julie currently works as a paralegal at a law firm in Cardiff and has recently married, so has an ongoing interest in weddings.

Carol said: "As we are always talking about weddings to be honest it felt right to look at providing clients something that was different and fabulous.

"We are a partnership which supplies 4ft high wooden carved letters for hire. They are funky and fun and are illuminated with carnival lights like the ones you would normally see at a fairground. Brides and grooms are often looking at ideas to make the evening function fun and interesting and these add a wonderful atmospheric lighting to any event."

Carol said: "The feedback we have had has been so positive. For example, we spoke to Santander with regards to setting up a business account and the letters ended up in the branch for the week up to Valentine’s day. James from Santander told us 90 per cent of their customers commented on the letters and loved them. In fact one customer wanted to buy them there and then. It was a great way for us to raise the brand awareness.

Carol and Julie will be attending wedding fairs around the region and are also keen to break into the corporate market.

They work with a local carpenter who creates the letters for them.
