Serial entrepreneur Lyndon Wood, CEO and founder of Caerphilly-based insurance brokers constructaquote.com, has vowed to give £1,000 each month towards helping people in his local community.

Caerphilly was the only town to appear twice in the 2014 Welsh Government's top 10 most deprived areas in Wales, with the St James area hitting the top spot.

The St James area is less than two miles from the constructaquote.com office, which prompted Wood to take matters into his own hands.

He said: “I refuse to be labelled as just another insurance company. That’s not my style and that’s definitely not how I want people to see me and my business. The thing is, I hear a lot of established people saying they care about their communities, but don’t really do a great deal about it. Now, I mean it when I say I care about my community and that’s why I decided to do act upon it. That’s why I set up my community fund project.

Constructaquote.com, whose motto is 'where honesty is our best policy' is fiercely determined to be seen as a truth and care-giving company, is merely an extension of Lyndon’s personal ethos.

Lyndon said: “Too many successful business people see money as the only indicator of success - whoever has more of it wins.

“I can tell you for a fact, that hoarding money is nothing more than an ego boost and doesn't really give you satisfaction or a real sense of success.

“I just think £1,000 isn’t really a big deal to me, but it could make the world of difference to someone else.”

“For me, this is what it means to be successful. I’m in a position where I can make a difference to someone else’s well-being. To me, this is far more powerful than any millions sitting in a bank account.

“Sometimes it’s not even about the money. Some people are looking for a break.

“When I met with the people at Pleasant Place Sheltered Housing Association, they weren’t looking for a life-changing amount of money; they just wanted something to look forward to.

“So I took them on a day trip to Weston Super Mare and treated them to a fish and chip supper (their choice).

“Now, this wasn’t about the money for them. Rich people don’t get this. Especially those who consider their bank balance as a measure of success.”

Wood, who grew up in a not-so-affluent area in the tail end of the Welsh Valley’s, knows first-hand what it’s like feel the financial pinch and has not forgotten his roots.
