Lucy Burgess has recently joined Newport-based Monmouthshire Building Society as human resources manager.

Lucy’s primary role is to develop an HR strategy and work with managers to ensure that the society continues to attract, recruit and retain high calibre staff.

Along with her team, she will provide HR and training services across the organisation, ensuring that the society is compliant in all aspects of employment law and regulatory regimes.

Prior to joining Monmouthshire, Lucy worked in HR for almost 10 years at the Principality Building Society, working with both the building society and its estate agency, Peter Alan.

Having graduated with a bachelor’s degree in business management from Cardiff Business School followed by a master’s degree in HR management from the University of South Wales, Lucy is a chartered member of the Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development (CIPD).

She said: “I am really excited to join the building society at a time of growth both in terms of assets (having recently reached the landmark £1bn) and also staff; we now employ more than 140 people and we are viewed as an attractive employer in the local area. The society already has a great culture and it’s important that everything we develop for, and with, our staff aligns with our values - particularly around our personal service and our community support which is one of the society’s key values.

She said: “As a former student of Bassaleg School, it’s been great to return to a city which is very close to my heart. The recent developments in the city centre, including the upcoming opening of Friars Walk, ensure that Newport a great place to work, and an ideal position for the Society which was established here back in 1869.”
