Two promising Welsh cyclists have been given a head start in their cycling careers thanks to support from a local business.

Chepstow-based SD Sealants & Cosmetic Repairs sponsorship of Scott Davies and Amy Roberts will enable the two cyclists to compete on an international scale by supporting them with living costs as they make the transition to professional sport.

SD has been involved with cycling in Wales in various forms since 2012 but this is the first time it has been directly involved with young cyclists.

As a keen cyclist, Nick Jones, director of the UK’s leading sealant specialists was particularly enthusiastic about showing his commitment to the sport.

He said: “I have always been interested in cycling and jumped at the opportunity to support these future Welsh stars.

“Both Amy and Scott are extremely professional and have the potential to go far in their chosen field, when they do, I will be proud of the small part that SD has played in their success.”

Scott, 20, from Carmarthenshire, joined the Welsh Cycling Junior Programme in 2012 and gained experience racing across the UK and internationally, winning the prestigious Junior Tour of Wales in 2013.

Scott progressed to the British Cycling Senior Academy in 2015 and won the British Cycling U23 Time Trial Championships for a second time, only the third rider to win the titles back to back. In 2016, Scott joined Team Wiggins and is looking forward to progressing on the road this year.

Scott said: “I have recently moved to Nice, where I’ll be basing myself over the next six months, which wouldn’t have been possible without the support of SD Sealants and I’m very grateful for their help and support. I’m hoping that the mountainous terrain and consistent weather will contribute positively to my performances. I think it’s about time I brushed up on my French too.”

Amy, 21, from Pontyberem, represented Wales in the Isle of Man Commonwealth Youth Games in road and time trial events in 2011. She progressed to the British Cycling Olympic Development Programme, where she represented Great Britain on both the track and road.

Amy has been part of Wiggle-High5 Pro Cycling Team since its inception in 2013 and is looking forward to success on the road this year.

Amy said: "This year I want to focus on my road cycling career. The support from SD Sealants will help me to get more experience racing abroad, competing in international fields against the top female riders. It’s fantastic that SD Sealants can support us both with our careers.”

With a network of offices across the UK, SD offers true national coverage by using a group of local sealant operatives to carry out specific projects.

SD regularly works with a wide variety of well-known construction companies including BAM, Balfour Beatty, Willmott Dixon, Mace, Sir Robert McAlpine and Morgan Sindall.
