Webbs of Crickhowell is celebrates 80 years since it was founded this summer.

The firm, Webbs, as it is known, is now in its second and third generation, run by the sons and grandsons of the founder, Herbert Webb.

The department store set on two sites in the town started from very humble origins as a paraffin round serving Crickhowell and the surrounding areas.

This grew into an ironmongers shop following the war years, and continues to expand in new directions, with new additions such as upholstery, divan beds, occasional and cabinet furniture from many of the leading names, including Duresta, Vispring, and Old Charm to name just a few.

The store stocks a range of goods including garden furniture, all types of garden machinery including lawnmowers and hedge trimmers, white goods and a complete range of household goods, add to an ever evolving range of products.

What once started out as a local Crickhowell business now draws customers from across the UK, with deliveries, as far as Scotland and France.

Despite the success and continued growth experienced over 80 years, complacency has never allowed to set in, with ideas and plans always being forged to meet new challenges.

Now that the dedicated bedroom showroom, found on Standard Street in Crickhowell, has established itself, the next phase of Webbs development is in its embryonic stages with the planned first phase expansion of the main store following the acquisition of an adjacent building due to commence in late July.
