As foodies in and around Newport look forward to October's sixth Newport Food Festival, a number of local businesses have signed up to sponsor the popular event.

Newport brewery Tiny Rebel is headline sponsor and the event will be known as the Tiny Rebel Newport Food and Drink Festival.

It is taking place on Saturday, October 1, and is set to be the biggest and best yet.

Other businesses who have come on board as sponsors include Admiral, Everett Tomlin Lloyd and Pratt solicitors, and the Golden Lion in Magor.

Tiny Rebel has made a commitment to sponsor the event for the next three years.

Bradley Cummings, co-founder of Tiny Rebel, said: “We had a fantastic experience of the festival last year. Urban Tap House had yet to officially open but we ran a roaring trade from our pop-up bar and a huge amount of interest from the public in our beer and new venue.

“We’re a proud Newport business so coming on board as headline sponsor of the festival is a great honour. We look forward to helping develop the newly emphasised drink aspect of the celebration and raising awareness of the festival throughout South Wales and beyond.”

Admiral Group, which employs about 900 people in its Newport city centre offices, is again showing its support for the food festival.

It will sponsor the gallery level of Newport Indoor Market – a key food festival venue.

The Admiral Gallery will host chef demonstrations throughout the day, as well as the final of the popular Teenchef competition.

Admiral will also be hosting food festival themed staff days to drum-up support and excitement with the 900 staff located in their Newport offices.

Ceri Assiratti, head of people services at Admiral, said: “The Newport Food Festival continues to go from strength to strength and we’re delighted to be involved again for the second year running. Last year’s event was particularly popular with our staff who really enjoyed activities in the office as well as the festival day itself. This year we will again be having our own chef demo and food sampling sessions which everyone is looking forward to.”

Everett Tomlin Lloyd and Pratt, whose offices are located at Gold Tops, has been providing legal advice to businesses and individuals in south Wales for more than 200 years.

Ashley Harkus, Partner (Solicitor Advocate) at the legal firm, said: “We are very proud to be based in, and work for, the people of Newport. Supporting the food festival is a way in which we can give something back to the community.

“As a company we have grown considerably over recent years and it’s great to see Newport growing and prospering also. It is important that we all support initiatives that help the regeneration of the areas we work and live in and look forward to being part of a successful event.”

The Golden Lion in Magor has also stepped up as a sponsor.

Louise Jones, owner of the Golden Lion, said: “I am very excited to support Newport Food Festival this year. We are keeping a warm welcome at The Golden Lion for everyone to experience our hospitality. We believe in the enjoyment of good food and wine. I look forward to enjoying the 2016 festival with you all!”

This year’s Tiny Rebel Newport Food and Drink Festival will host around 80 stalls, as well as the return of the popular Teenchef competition and expert chef demonstrations. The main activities will centre on High Street, and the areas in and around Newport Indoor Market will again have a local focus.

Councillor Debbie Wilcox, Leader of Newport City Council, said: “The food festival has proved to be a great day out and is growing annually in popularity. Around 15,000 people filled the city centre last year, and we want to see even more on the day and at the supporting events.

“We look forward to working with Tiny Rebel – not only by incorporating their products and ethos of fun into the festival offering, but also by learning from their rapid growth and great reputation and using this to really boost awareness of the festival.”
