Childcare is in the blood for Kane Gore after growing up in the family business at Mathern Day Nursery, where his mum used to take him to work with her as a tiny baby, in a blanket and keep him safe in a toy box.

After working at the family nursery for the last nine years, Kane (27) stumbled into a conversation with his local bank manager about property investment but somehow the conversation swung into the possibility of purchasing another nursery.

Three months later, Kane acquired Tiny Beginnings Nursery (now Monmouth Day Nursery) in Monmouth, supported by Barclays.

Monmouth Day Nursery currently employs 13 staff and forecasts turnover to exceed £350,000 next year under the new management team.

Kane Gore, owner of Monmouth Day Nursery said “I never thought I would get the financial backing to acquire my own nursery, so when my Barclays manager raised the topic, it came as a surprise.

"After creating a financial package to acquire the lease with an option to buy in 10 years, the idea became reality, providing this great business opportunity without the prohibitive startup costs.

"I’m passionate about education and child welfare and just can’t wait to come to work every morning. We are registered to take 44 children from birth to age five and hope to raise occupancy rates over the next 12 months.”

Anne Winfield, Barclays business manager, said: “As champions of local business, it is essential that we support local businesses such as Monmouth Day Nursery.

"By really understanding the business and issues they have faced, Barclays has been able to support Monmouth Day Nursery throughout the transfer of ownership. The investment has retained the existing workforce and created two new jobs.”

Kane said: "Running a business is tough with no rest bite and being tied to the business 24-hours a day but the rewards far outweigh the downsides even after working long hours. The joy of seeing my efforts or simply a big smile from one of our children makes it all worthwhile. We have just been approved to provide free LEA funded child care places for qualifying 3 year olds and will be launching our forest school sessions this term as we plan to take the classroom outside, combing education, nature and fresh air.”
