A team of accountants has ensured that 33 less fortunate children across Newport will wake up on Christmas Day to find a collection of gifts hand-picked especially for them.

Rallied by their colleague Natalie Durman, the 50-strong team at UHY Hacker Young chartered accounts have collectively donated more than 100 gifts for the Children and Young People Services division of Newport City Council.

The gifts will be delivered to children within the Newport area as presents from Santa.

Led by Natalie, the UHY team decided that instead of the tradition of giving Christmas cards to colleagues, they would work together to try and make a difference to children in Newport, who otherwise may not receive any presents this year.

Working with Newport City Council, the team were able to donate presents that are tailored to the age, gender, and where possible, the individual interests of each child.

More than £1,000 worth of presents were donated and organised into 33 personalised gift bags, one for each child.

Natalie Durman, company accountant at UHY Hacker Young Newport, said: “Every child deserves to open a present and have a smile on their faces at Christmas. It was an emotional time when the Council came to collect all the gifts, I’m grateful to the team for coming together to make such a difference for these children.

“I know that everyone here has enjoyed being able to go out and find gifts that will mean so much to these children. If others would like to do the same, I’d encourage you to contact Newport City Council to find out how you can help.”
