Darts star given some pointers

PREMIER League dart player Terry 'The Bull' Jenkins made a guest appearance at The George in Aberbargoed and helped to raise £2,000 for charity in the process.

Regulars in The George pub Aberbargoed welcomed possibly their most famous customer as one of the world's top darts players - Terry 'The Bull' Jenkins took part in a charity darts match.

The George entered a Whyte & Mackay competition in The Morning Advertiser to win a Whyte & Mackay Premier League Darts player for the night - allowing a local team to put their skills to the test against one of the greatest names in the darts world.

The George, part of the Dragons Inns Group, was chosen as the winning pub and fresh from his stint in the Whyte & Mackay Premier League Darts, which ended in May after 15 intense weeks, Terry 'The Bull' Jenkins joined the local team.

Terry was playing for the Dragons (eight dragons and a bull) against the George team.

The George's amateur darts team 'The George All Stars' took on a team made up from other pubs in the group 'The Dragons' who became '8 Dragons and a Bull' for the night as they welcomed Jenkins into their team. However, The George All Stars managed to pull some winning shots out the bag and were crowned victorious.

The night raised more £2,000 on the night for children's charity CLIC Sergeant.

The George pub has a reputation of being a great sports pub. In 2007 they were crowned best sports pub Wales in 2007 and they sponsor 13 darts teams including a super league team and showcase all major sporting events.

Terry Jenkins said: "After 15 intense weeks taking part in the Whyte & Mackay Premier League Darts I thought this was going to be a relaxed and fun match to play but boy was I wrong. The players possessed great talent and skills and definitely made me work hard. I'll certainly know where to come if I need any worthy opponents to keep me on top of my game."
