THE EIGHTH annual "Egg Race" organised by the Caerphilly Rotary Club for local primary schools, brought together seven teams of enthusiastic youngsters at Caerphilly Leisure Centre.
Each team of five had to design and construct a vehicle to carry a fresh egg (kindly provided by Mr Welshegg) across the width of the Leisure Centre using jet propulsion provided by balloons!
Overseen by rotary president Adrian Cornelius and inner wheel president Catrin Rowlands with technical advice from Jane Young of Techniquest, Cardiff, the winners were Ysgol Gymraeg Caerffili (Year 6 cup), Cwm Aber (Year five cup), St James' (Runners up) and Techniquest prize, Ysgol Gymraeg Caerffili, Year five.
The town's mayor, Councillor Colin Elsbury, presented the prizes and the event organiser was rotarian Catherine Gregory.
