Machen show this weekend

THIS weekend the Machen Show will be taking place and it is now in it's 66th year of offering a great day out for all.

On Saturday July 4 will start at 8.30am, and judges, competitors and visitors will be welcomed to the venue Mill Farm, Machen, from all around the UK. Even with the wide ranging appeal of the competitive events, the show remains very much a local concern.

The four show rings will be occupied by the horse classes - within this section there are all manner of classes including Hunters and Working Ponies; Side-saddle; Welsh Section A, B, C, D and Retrained Racehorses. There are also classes for goats, rabbits, poultry, a family dog show, terrier, show, hound show, horticulture and homecraft competitions.

Machen Show is not just about competitive events, each year we offer a range of displays intended to increase the all-round appeal of the show. This year we are delighted to welcome The Mid Wales Axe Racing Team, and the Pygmy Goat Club National Breed show.

Other displays include a parade of vintage machinery and the Pygmy Goats, and there will be the excitement of a tractor pull.

There are also events where the public are encouraged to take part, such as childrens' races, the six-legged dog scurry and fly-fishing.

Static displays will feature owls, ferrets, snakes, spiders and farm animals.

Trade stands and a craft tent are filled with ideas, so we hope that there will be something for everyone on the day, from the seasoned show visitor to someone attending the show for the first time.

It's a wonderful day out in the glorious countryside - only ten minutes from Caerphilly!
