Former nurse celebtrates her 100th birthday


A FORMER nurse has reached her hundredth birthday and celebrated with 80 of her friends and family.

Nancy Probert who now lives on Pentwyn Road, Blackwood grew up in Aberbargoed but spent most of her adult life in Cefn Fforest and Blackwood.

She has one daughter, two grand children and three great grand children.

Nancy puts her long life to being active and busy and claims that is the only way to get to the age of 100.

Mrs Probert was born in Commerrcial Street in Aberbargoed.

She was married to Alf in 1932 who was a collier at Britannia Colliery. Unfortunately he died at the age of 52 from pneumoconiosis.

She spent many years as a nurse in various hospitals including, Cefn Mably, Gelligaer and Singleton in Swansea.

Mrs Probert is a member of the Woman's Institute and a past lady president of Moose International. She is a Deacon at Trinity Presbyterian Church, Cefn Fforest where she was a Sunday school teacher for more than 40 years.

More than 80 people came to visit and she has received 139 cards and 25 bouquets. The mayor of Caerphilly Borough, John Evans also paid a visit on the day of her birthday, Saturday January 16.
