TWO robbers attacked a female shop assistant when they targeted a Twickenham post office, stealing £15,000.

The 55-year-old victim was pushed to the floor and punched repeatedly in the face by the men who robbed the post office at 302 Nelson Road, at 2.05pm last Friday (September 5).

The first suspect walked into the shop, which is 50 yards from the junction with Whitton Waye, wearing a long sleeved, blue hooded top, with the hood up and asked for a lottery ticket.

The victim told him he had to be over 17 as she couldn’t see his face, so he took the hood down and she saw that he was about 20 and clean shaven.

He then put hood back up and the victim left the secure counter area to get to the lottery machine, which was adjacent.

While he completed the ticket, the second suspect entered the shop and briefly spoke to his friend.

He then leapt over the counter and pushed the victim to the floor.

He pulled the key to the secure area from her hands and opened the door and took a quantity of notes from the counter.

During this time, the first suspect was beating the victim, punching her in the face with his right fist, and placing his other hand over her mouth as she was screaming loudly.

They both then ran out of the shop, turning right into Whitton Way, while the victim sounded the panic alarm and the police were called.

She suffered facial swelling and abrasions, and was extremely upset, although she wasn’t taken to hospital.

The two suspects are described as being 20-year-old, white males. The first was 5ft tall with cropped, very short hair. The second was 5ft 6ins.

Staff from another local shop told police that they had seen an old style red VW Golf, with bald rear tyres, about 30 minutes before the robbery, with a white male and a European male sitting inside.
