AN ALLOTMENT association in Trethomas now has a purpose built meeting room and shop thanks to grants totalling more than £30,000.

The allotments on Bryngwyn Street and across from Newport Road have almost 100 members aged from 20 to over 80. The grants are £25,000 from the Basic Services Community Key Fund from the EC and £7,580 from the Community regeneration Fund from Caerphilly borough council. They also recieved £400 from the local church fund.

Lyn Jones from Trethomas has had an allotment on the site for 44 years and said: "The building is great and it's not just for us but for future generations to benefit from. This will be here when we're all gone.

"The work that Billy Hughes (Trethomas Allotment Association) has done in getting the grants and work done is much appreciated."

The group would like to thank GAVO and Gina Jones for all their help obtaining the grants
