A TEN-YEAR-OLD Caerphilly boy can now stand and walk a few steps after an operation in the USA.

Tom Sargent's parents Chris and Leanne were overwhelmed by the response of people who helped to raise more than £60,000 for Tom's operation.

Tom who has cerebral palsy needed to raise £45,000 to have the operation called Selective Dorsal Rhizotomy and the funds also mean he can afford rehabilitation thanks to people's generosity.

He will have another operation in the USA in January next year to release more tension in his legs and have an even better chance of walking unaided.

Tom was unable to have that procedure in July but can now proceed in January.
