A GROUP of friends from Pontypool hope to raise £2,000 for charity, in memory of a teaching assistant who died suddenly last year.

35-year-old Emma Thompson, who was working at Ystruth Primary School in Blaina, died from Sudden Arrhythmia Death Syndrome on January 3, 2012.

Originally from Pontypool, Miss Thompson's funeral was attended by more than 500 people and people wore animal print in her memory, explained friend Hannah Capel.

"Her death left a massive gap in everyone's lives, there was never a dull moment with Emma," said Mrs Capel, who along with friend Rebecca Jones organised the event at Crumlin Rugby Club yesterday.

"She was very much a people person and had the natural gift for interacting with people.

"She was very sporty and was always doing something for charity or her netball club. She would have organised this fundraising evening quite easily."

Well done for raising this money. This should not be happening at all.

Until this happens in your family you don't realise that this is happening to young people.
