Bedwas woman toasts being 100
11:00am Sunday 17th February 2013 in Campaign news
Edna, with daughter Jennifer Robinson and Cllr Ray Davies
BEDWAS mum, Edna Smith has celebrated her 100th birthday with family and friends.
Much-loved Mrs Smith toasted her special landmark with champagne with guests at her home, who included her daughter Jennifer who had flown from the USA especially.
Mrs Smith was delighted to receive cards from well-wishers including the first minister, Carwyn Jones, Welsh secretary David Jones MP and the Queen.
Bedwas councillor Ray Davies who was one of the many who joined the celebrations, said: “Edna Smith is an example to us all: an upright member of her community, actively supporting campaigns to improve our environment.
“Edna, at 90, had helped lead the campaign, alongside other members of the community, against the dumping of waste refuse which had brought an infestation of flies to Bedwas and Caerphilly.
“I was so proud to have the privilege of presenting her with a bouquet of flowers from our community council.”
