FIREFIGHTERS were called out to rescue a Jack Russell who got stuck after trying to squeeze through a metal gate.
The small dog had tried unsuccessfully to get through the gate on Duffryn Terrace, Wattsville at 5.30pm yesterday evening.
One crew of firefighters from Risca were called to the scene.
They used hydraulic spreaders - sometimes used to rescue crash victims from cars - to pry the metal apart to rescue the dog.
A spokeswoman for the South Wales Fire and Rescue service said the dog was fine.
