POLICE are appealing for witnesses after a rock was reportedly thrown from a railway bridge shattered the windscreen of a car driving underneath.

Gwent Police say they are looking for three youths aged between nine and 11 following the incident.

Sam Francis was driving along Newport Road in Risca on Monday afternoon when the stone was reportedly dropped from bridge near The Welsh Oak Pub.

Ms Francis stated it was ‘scary’ but was left unharmed despite significant damage to the car.

Chief inspector Martin Smith said: “At approximately 1:00pm on Monday, we received a report of stones being thrown at vehicles from a railway bridge along Newport Road, Risca.

"The caller stated one of the stones hit the windscreen of their car causing significant damage. We are remaining vigilant for three youths aged nine to 11 we believe to be involved.”
