2.10pm UPDATE:

It has been confirmed that the road is now fully re-opened after the incident earlier this morning.

Wales & West Utilities Operational Manager for Caerphilly, Alan Fletcher, said: "We found that a road traffic collision had damaged a gas service pipe supplying a home in the area, resulting in a small gas leak. As a precaution, the emergency services closed Fair View Road.

“Our engineers worked to repair the damage and the emergency services have reopened the road."

11.11am UPDATE:

Residents have now been allowed to return to their homes after being evacuated by Gwent Police as a safety precaution.

It has been confirmed that Wales & West Utilities attended and the leak has been sealed to stop any further spillage.

10.50am UPDATE:

Two people have been taken to the Royal Gwent Hospital in Newport after a rapid response vehicle and ambulance crew.

A Welsh Ambulance Service spokesman has confirmed they were called out at 8.25am.

Local resident Clive Gray, said: "It looks like utter chaos and the fire service has told me the main gas main has been struck so that could be quite risky.

"All the roads are blocked off. The congestion here is really bad anyway but now the pedestrian crossing, traffic lights and rails are all smashed up."

9.30am UPDATE:

South Wales Fire & Rescue Service have cordoned off a 50 by 70 metre area after a car hit an external gas pump.

Two crews from Aberbargoed were called to the scene at 8.30am and the people involved are being checked over by the Welsh Ambulance Service.

A gas engineer from the utilities company is now at the scene of the crash.

8.55am UPDATE

A CRASH involving three cars and a gas leek is causing delays to traffic near Blackwood in the Caerphilly county borough this morning.

The accident has blocked traffic in both directions on the A4254 Fair View in Pengam between the Heol Y Dderwen junction and the A4049 junction.

Gwent Police are currently re-directing traffic away from the incident.
