A PHONE scam has come to the attention of Caerphilly councils’ trading standards.

A borough resident informed the council that she received a call from a scammer, who reportedly said her council tax band could be cut in return for an upfront payment of £63.00.

The resident had the foresight to contact the council directly and when she mentioned this, the caller ended the phone call immediately.

Cllr Nigel George, the cabinet member with the responsibility for public protection, said: “This phone call was in no way associated with Caerphilly County Borough Council and I would like to thank the resident for bringing this to our attention, in order to make other residents aware.

“Never give bank or personal details to anyone that you do not know or trust and if in any doubt at all, please contact our trading standards team for advice”.
