A CAERPHILLY county borough primary school has been given the second highest rating in its latest Estyn report.

Libanus Primary School in Blackwood was inspected in December last year and the governing body’s report was released last week.

The school was rated as ‘good’ for its current performance and prospects of improvement the second highest rating under ‘excellent’.

The report stated that nearly all pupils are described as making “strong progress” in developing reading, writing, numerical and information technology skills.

It also added that the school makes effective arrangements for ensuring the health and wellbeing of all pupils.

Head teacher Nicola Williams said she was delighted with the latest report.

She said: “We are always building and developing our school. We are an inclusive, interesting school with really stunning pupils who have an interest in everything.

“I am a very proud head teacher and would like to thank all of my staff, pupils, governors and parents and families for their contribution to the solidly good Estyn report.”

According to the inspector pupils throughout the school develop their IT skills “very well” and all pupils are aware how to be safe online. Staff morale was also praised, and described as “high” in the report.

Mrs Williams said: “We provide the children in our care with a high quality education, whilst not forgetting the importance of being happy, confident, respectful, enthusiastic, motivated and being able to enjoy school life.”
