ONLY 28 per cent of councillors in Wales are women – up just two per cent since 2012, a study has found.
The Local Government Commission also found only four council leaders out of 22 across Wales are women.
A spokeswoman for the commission said: “Women remain woefully underrepresented in Welsh local government, despite the better picture in the Senedd. At this pace, it will take 82 years to achieve equality.
“The commission’s interim report found sexism is commonplace in local government across Wales and England, with almost four in ten female councillors having experienced sexist comments from within their own party.”
