NEWPORT will welcome a performance by The Band of Her Majesty’s Royal Marines Collingwood, it has been announced.
The band, which was formed in 2009 as a direct result of the closure of the band based at the Britannia Royal Naval College in Dartmouth, will give a 30 minute performance beginning at 12.30pm in John Frost Square on Friday.
In recent years the band has enjoyed performing at various events including the opening ceremony for the Rugby World Cup at Twickenham, and the London Olympics.
Now under the leadership of Major Jon Ridley RM, the band has had another year of high profile engagements including a trip to the Falkland Islands to take part in the Queen’s Celebration Parade, and a performance at the Silverstone Grand Prix.
Its concerts raise funds for service charities and it performs for events both on a national level and for local communities.
