GWENT Police have been made aware of a scam following a report from a Monmouthshire resident.

The victim received a call from a man with a strong Indian accent purporting to work for Open Reach.

The caller stated that he was contacting the victim in relation to his WiFi signal and they needed access to his computer, which the caller allowed.

The victim was asked to pay for an upgrade and told he would have a discount if he paid with iTunes vouchers.

The victim proceeded to purchase the vouchers online and gave the serial number over the phone which gives the offenders access to the funds.

Officers are urging the public to be vigilant and to report anything suspicious to Action Fraud via their website - actionfraud.police.uk - or call them on 0300 123 2040.
