The stage being built for BBC Caerphilly Proms in the Park
THIS weekend BBC Proms in the Park will be coming to Caerphilly again and this time organisers hope the weather won't spoil the day as it did last year.
BBC Cymru Wales and Caerphilly County Borough Council are ready to welcome the crowds to Caerphilly's Owain Glyndwˆr Playing Fields, for this year's BBC Proms in the Park on Saturday September 8.
People are invited to bring along their picnics and join in an evening of classical music and fireworks.Gates to the Owain Glyndwˆr Playing Fields will open from 4.30pm, and from 6pm a selection of music groups will be performing as part of the Community Stage programme - including BTM Brass Band, Cefn Hengoed Ladies' Choir, and Seren, a vocal trio from the Rhymney Valley. To help Prom goers with their travel plans after the concert, there will be additional trains leaving Caerphilly station on the evening.
Two additional trains calling at all stations to Cardiff Central will be departing from Caerphilly station at 11pm and 11.15pm; and the 1.35pm service from Caerphilly to Ystrad Mynach will be extended to Rhymney.
The main event starts at 7.45pm, and will be presented by BBC the One Show presenter Alex Jones and Only Men Aloud Musical Director Tim Rhys-Evans.
There will be performances by soprano Elin Manahan Thomas from Swansea, tenor Wynne Evans from Carmarthen, and fifteen-year-old cellist Laura van der Heijden, winner of BBC Young Musician 2012.
The soloists will be accompanied by the BBC National Orchestra and Chorus of Wales, under the wand of conductor Tecwyn Evans, who will lead the audience in a sing-along performance of songs including Sosban Fach, We'll Keep a Welcome and Cwm Rhondda.Tickets can be bought in advance until Friday September 7 for just £10 (with children 12 and under free), and can be booked through the Blackwood Miners Institute (01495 227206) www.blackwoodminersinstitute.com; the BBC National Orchestra of Wales Audience Line (03700 10 10 51); or in person through the 'Visit Caerphilly' centre.Tickets are also available on the day for £12.
