Newbridge gran shows off unusual artwork

A 75-YEAR-OLD grandmother is to hold an exhibition to showcase her unusual work.
Marjorie Williams, from Pentwynmawr, near Newbridge, has been practising pergamano parchment craft for 15 years and aims to get other people interested in it when her designs go on show at Pentwynmawr Presbyterian Church.
The ancient craft was one practised by nuns and monks in monasteries, using papyrus leaves.
Mrs Williams first got interested in it when a practitioner of pergamano parchment visited her in the craft shop she used to run in Newbridge.
She got hooked and now traces pergamano designs onto parchment paper, creating cards, fans and ornaments such as fold-up elephants.
Mrs Williams said: “Sometimes I’ll spend the whole day working on designs, while it will usually take me about an hour and a half to make a card.”
You can find out more at the exhibition on Saturday, September 15, from 10am until 4pm.
