THE Tintern Jubilee duck race is going ahead tomorrow following its postponement.

It was postponed from May 7 due to the dangerous state of the river Wye, but tickets are still available from local businesses or from Julie Redgewell-Green on timandjules@ googlemail.com and cost £2.

Prizes include £150, £50, £25 and five of £10.

The ducks will be tipped into the river from Brockweir Bridge at 11am. The race will end opposite the Rose and Crown in Tintern at around 1pm. All are welcome to encourage their ducks.

This event will start the Tintern Jubilee Committee’s weekend of events.

On Monday, June 4, the big celebration begins at noon on the Leytons Field, between the abbey and the village. There will be fun for all ages, from a traditional children’s tea party with commemorative mugs to a fashion show. There are stalls with crafts and local produce, as well as five-a-side football and tug-o-war competitions, and a photographic exhibition in the village hall.

The day will be rounded off with a dance to live band Smokeroom and music from Disco Dave in the village hall.

On Tuesday, June 5, afternoon tea will be served in the Royal George Hotel. This is free to anyone over 60 with a connection with Tintern.
