Four month trek for charity

A SUPPORT worker from Rudry is about to embark on "The journey of a lifetime" as he prepares for a 1000 mile journey across the Himalayas.

Marcos Martin-Suarez, 36, from Garth Place, Rudry is getting ready to fly into Chamba in Nepal to begin the epic challenge with three fellow adventurers. He aims to raise £7000 for Charities including his employer-Llamau.

Marcos has worked for Llamau in Cardiff for nearly five years as a Tenancy Support Worker. The charity offers support for some of society's most vulnerable young people.

He will also be raising money for Karuna Trust, which provides primary education for 13,000 ethnic Tibetan children living in poverty in one of the most isolated and extreme environments in the world. He will be traveling with three other from other parts of the UK.

Marcos said: "I am looking forward to the adventure of a life time. It's going to be a very spiritual trip where I will be able to experience a different aspect of life outside the constraints of work and the city.

"It is on behalf of a cause that I completely believe in and want to do as much as I can to support these people."

The trek will take the group through a nomadic village in Lossar where one of the educational centers is based. They will be able to spend some time living within the tribal community and witness first hand how the money they raised will be spent.

The keen adventurer has tracked in the Himalayas before but due to harsh nature of the terrain he has spend the last few months month planning and scrutinizing the route which will take three to four months to complete. The added difficulty to the journey is that they must not use transport so must avoid all major roads.

The entrepid adventurer has set up a website to document his journey so that his supporters can receive regular updates about his progress.

All money raised on-line will be done securely through the justgiving.com website so those wishing to donate can support the team by going to www.nowheelsjustlegs.com
