ONCE again I read Cllr Dix has raised the same misinformation he peddled prior to the last council elections, when he claimed Caerphilly council under Plaid lost £15 million in the collapsed Icelandic banks in 2008.
Does this councillor not have the time or inclination to read his own council’s latest financial report and accounts up to 31st March 2013?
If he has not, then let me quote what the official documents states about the Icelandic banks investments: “Since the balance sheet date (31st March), the authority has received further dividends from the failed Icelandic banks. The authority received a final dividend of £1,690,000 from Heritable Bank, representing a total recovery of 94 per cent, as well as a dividend of £255,000 from Landsbanki.” This equates to around £14.4 million already repaid to Caerphilly council. It is well worth noting that the present shortfall which is significantly less than the total that he and his comrades have unlawfully awarded to senior managers.
I hope this now sets the record straight. Your readers can find the full Financial Accounts Report on the Caerphilly county borough website. Allan Pritchard Oakdale
