Millions wasted

ALLAN Pritchard, (December 6), expressed the view that the First Minister showed “utter disrespect” when answering questions on the education rating for Wales. I accept his right to make such comments and would fight for his right to make them. However, I cannot but believe that he is being a bit holier than thou in this instance.

He would do well to note the comments of Grangemuse in his email. It is a fact that the cost of the Welsh Language Act, forced on Labour as the price of power in the Assembly, has been horrendous. Millions wasted by a minority to inflict a dying language on the rest of us. Surely Mr Pritchard would agree that this money could have been better spent on educating our children? If he does not, he is being sanctimonious His party has a policy of not answering questions put to them in this newspaper. Surely there is a similarity with Carwyn Jones? He will also know that his party, the Welsh Nationalists, played a part in the governance of Wales in the recent past and as such he should acknowledge their share of the responsibilities in this matter.

When Plaid was the junior partner in the Welsh Assembly it was Labour ministers in charge of the failing departments like education and health and it was Labour policies that was pushed through. As Mandela once said,"I hate race discrimination most intensely and in all its manifestations. I have fought it all during my life; I fight it now, and will do so until the end of my days." So why are English speaker so against the Welsh language? When ther arer billions of pounds spent on white elephants in England/ London and billions of pounds spent on foreign aid and forreign wars.

If Mr Price thinks Welsh education is a waste of money, then I would suggest that he studies the results across Wales on the attainment of pupils being educated through the medium of Welsh in comparison with those in English medium education.
If the average attainment and examination results of Welsh medium schools was used in s Pisa assessment, Wales would be on par with Scotland and not languishing at the bottom of the UK countries table.
