  • "The fact is, if fewer cuts were made, council tax charges would have had to go up even more.

As a result of Tory-led Westminster government cuts to Welsh Government funding, Caerphilly Council has had to make expenditure cuts of £14.5 million for 2014/15, None of us wants to make cuts. But if our funding is cut, we have to make hard choices about council services and council tax levels.

Hopefully, most Caerphilly county borough residents won't notice any great impact on services in 2014/15. But the Condem cuts mean even deeper cuts will have to be made to Caerphilly Council's budget in 2015/16 and 2016/17. Much harder choices will have to be made then. Our Labour-led Council will do its damnedest to protect the worst-off in our communities. But things may get a lot worse before they start to get better."
