THE SNP captured the hearts and votes of young people in Scotland, winning 44% of those polled for BBC1's Newsround programme.

Tony Blair triumphed in the mock General Election, with Labour winning more than 200 seats more than the Conservatives.

But Labour failed to gain an outright majority in the poll of 250,000 schoolchildren aged seven to 18, conducted over four months.

The result of the youngsters' poll translated into a hung parliament, because minority parties won 130 seats between them.

Labour took 324 seats, the Conservatives 113 seats, the Liberal Democrats 92 - and minority parties a total of 130 seats. Labour needed 330 for an overall majority.

In Scotland, the SNP made the most impact on young voters, gaining 44% of the votes.

And the Monster Raving Loony Party needn't give up hope - it took eight constituencies by storm.
