Scotland under-21 coach Tommy Craig must find a new captain for tomorrow's European Championship tie with Sweden in Trollhattan.

Craig yesterday lost four

players including Gary Locke of Hearts, who was captain for a recent defeat by Austria.

Scotland are as good as out of the qualification race in their group as they lag behind the Swedes, Belarus and Austria.

Craig also lost Locke's Hearts team-mate Paul Ritchie, Stephen Glass of Aberdeen, and Falkirk's Kevin James. James, the 6ft 7ins hero of Falkirk's run to the Scottish Cup final, misses out on the chance to win his first cap.

As cover, Craig called up Clyde's Martin O'Neill, Motherwell's Greig Denham and Gary Teale of Clydebank.

St Mirren youngster Ricky Gillies, the subject of transfer interest from Newcastle, Liverpool and Aberdeen, is suspended for the under-21 match after being booked twice earlier in the campaign.
