LIVINGSTON have come a long way since Jim Leishman took over two years ago, when the team, in their last few weeks as Meadowbank, were already doomed to relegation.

Last term brought the third division championship and a l run of wins early this season raised hopes that the first division might be beckoning.

But Livvy's chances have diminished substantially after last Sunday's home defeat by Hamilton, who are now six points behind Ayr, with a similar lead over Leishman's team.

Disappointment at Almondvale? Not a bit of it when Leishman is around. ''We're delighted with the way the season has gone,'' he insisted. ''At the outset, we set our sights on safety and we have achieved that.''

As for the 2-1 defeat by Accies, he observed: ''It was a good, honest game and both managers were given 110% by their players.''

The fixture attracted 3600 to Almondvale and that figure could be topped today by the visit of the champions elect Ayr. Accies will have to be careful at Dumbarton, even although Sons have only one home win all season.

Berwick can make things exciting at the foot if they gain their first away win, at the expense of third-bottom Stranraer.
