A WELL-KNOWN member of the fourth estate asked on Saturday: "Have Hamilton reached third position in the league by boring their opponents into submission?"
Against Ross County, he may have had a point and he had an ally in visiting manager Scott Leitch.
"I was surprised and disappointed that Billy Reid opted to play a 5-4-1 formation at home, especially when we were trying to win the game by playing an attacking 4-3-3 but that is up to him, " said Leitch. "It certainly was not a very entertaining games for the fans."
He was spot on. The game was almost bereft of chances, except for the Accies having a "goal" by David Winters ruled out for a push 10 minutes from the break and a couple of penalty appeals in the second half which were both, somewhat harshly, turned down by match referee Alan Muir.
In his defence, Reid could have cited another injury which deprived him of striker Richard Offiong before the game, but he chose not to.
"I had a lot of young kids out there and I thought we controlled the game for the most part, " said Reid.
"But once again, one or two controversial decisions went against us - it looked a stonewall penalty against Paul McLeod - but that is the way it has been for us recently.
"All we maybe lacked was a wee bit of quality in the final third of the field just to break them down."
