THE ferns of the Botanic Gardens' Kibble Palace in Glasgow provided a romantic setting for the launch of a magical ballet.

Sleeping Beauty will be performed by Scottish Ballet in December at the Theatre Royal.

Martina Forioso plays Princess Aurora who falls asleep for 100 years. Thankfully, a handsome prince in the form of Christopher Harrison comes to rescue her.

Featuring sections of the original 1890 choreography by Marius Petipa, Scottish Ballet's new version adds an extra twist to the traditional fairytale.

Plus costumes reflect everything from the simple elegance of 1830s Regency style to the opulent glamour of neo-gothic Victorian dress and the austere silhouette of 1940s' post-war Europe.

The Bank of Scotland-sponsored show runs from December 5-27.
