PUPILS at Govan High School said "Ole!" to Rangers' Spanish star Aaron Niguez, when he paid them a visit.

Excitement was in the air as the Rangers midfielder took part in a Spanish conversation class in the school's autism unit.

Aaron joined in a question and answer session in which the children posed the questions in Spanish. He said: "I am very impressed with how well the children can speak Spanish and I think it is very important to learn new languages. When I was young, I always wanted to play with my friends but my parents made sure that I learned English and now that I am playing for Rangers I am very glad that I did.

"I like working with the children and not only can I help them but they are also helping me improve my English."

Pupil Gary Adamson, 15, said: "I just sat my Standard Grade Spanish exam and I think the work I have done in these classes has really helped me improve my skills and get ready for my exam. I am really excited to meet Aaron today."

The purpose of autistic unit is to provide appropriate educational placement for pupils of secondary age whose ability to access a full mainstream curriculum is impeded by their communication disorder.

Lorna Wallace, who set up the unit, said: "The students learn Spanish because it is the most accessible foreign language for them to study. Also, it provides an opportunity for them to enhance their social use of language and communication skills."
