Ricky Gervais’ feature film has been bought by Netflix, adding to the streaming service’s growing roster of original movies.
The satirical comedy, titled Special Correspondents, has been written and directed by The Office star and is set to debut in 2016.
Eric Bana will play a struggling radio journalist who files fake war reports from New York, while Ricky will also co-star.
Ted Sarandos, chief content officer for Netflix, called the film “the kind of great grown-up comedy that studios rarely make any more”.
Ricky called Ted “the new Godfather of entertainment” and said: “He made me an offer I couldn’t refuse.”
Netflix has also made deals to premiere films from Adam Sandler and documentaries produced by Leonardo DiCaprio.
