Hannah Powell from Graigwen with baby Isla
A PONTYPRIDD mum has become one of the first to watch a new film designed to show expectant mothers across the UK everything they need to know about breastfeeding.
Hannah Powell, 33, from Graigwen in Pontypridd was a special guest at the launch at the Royal Glamorgan Hospital where chief nursing officer, Rosemary Kennedy, handed out the first 'From Bump to Breastfeeding' DVDs to a group of mums.
The film- which stars two Welsh mums - will be handed out to all mums-to-be around halfway through their pregnancy.
The DVD has been produced by child health charity Best Beginnings and it will give information about breastfeeding by showing the real experiences of mothers with their new babies who share their happy times as well as the challenges they faced.
Hannah, mum to six-month-old baby Isla, said: "I think the DVD is really good, I particularly enjoyed the bit where they explained about the size of the baby's stomach and that it was normal for your baby to want feeding regularly.
"I think it will be great in the middle of the night if you're having problems you can go to the part that is relevant to you for help."
Breastfeeding co-ordinator for Wales, Sue Sky said: "The DVD is not designed to pressure mums into breastfeeding but to give them all the knowledge and confidence to make the decision that is right for them.
"The Welsh mums starring in the film are fantastic role models to other breastfeeding mums and by sharing their experiences they are showing that slight difficulties aren't uncommon but can be overcome."
Celebrity expectant mum and breastfeeding supporter Charlotte Church said: "I think this is a really helpful DVD for expectant mothers. It will be great for new mothers to hear the voices of real mums sharing their breastfeeding experiences. I think it's so important that there is as much information as possible to help mums prepare for breastfeeding, which I think is such a fantastic experience for mum and baby.
"Having a film you can watch with your feet up with a cuppa is a great way of getting all the positive messages about breastfeeding across to mums!"
