MICHAEL PEARLMAN SAYS: County must remain on Parade

FRUSTRATING yes, something we have to get used to, absolutely, but I’m afraid even with set-backs like Saturday’s postponement against Kidderminster, my heart now belongs to Rodney Parade.

I couldn’t actually believe it when I was told there were a certain section of County fans bemoaning the decision on Saturday to call the game off due to a waterlogged pitch. Those same fans who no doubt couldn’t wait to point out that Llanwern, who play at Spytty Park, were able to play on Saturday.

I think it’s indicative of nothing other than some people being unable to function without moaning and some unwilling to accept that a football-less Saturday means doing those chores around the house you haven’t quite got round to yet.

Surely no-one is seriously disputing that County are far, far better off where they are? In every regard, it’s a more satisfying match day experience for a sport fan.

And what a slap in the face to the excellent Rodney Parade ground staff to question the amazing job they are doing on a pitch being battered on a weekly basis by three different teams.

Would Spytty Park have survived the snow? Not a chance in the world. Similarly, such was the rain we had last week, experience tells us a Spytty Park as ravaged as usual in a season with County as tenants would have been a mess too.

Days like Saturday are the inevitable drawback of life on Parade, but they aren’t enough to even contemplate any other home for the Exiles.

gosh ! what a way to get people on your side. how patronising can you get . people are entitled to their opinions,if i was conspiritorial, i would think you had a secret agenda, but i`m not. we are not meant to hang-on to every word you print, but use our own minds, and judgements.

I went to RP for the Newport match on Sunday and although the pitch was playable for rugby I seriously doubt it would have been for soccer. There were three or four very muddy patches and the ground was rather soft in places. The weather over the last few weeks has been very poor to say the least. The pitch under normal weather has proven to stand up quite well although I did have my doubts before the season started. The ground staff do a brilliant job and as the weather improves normal fixtures will resume.

Think of how we Newport supporters feel having so many of of our traditional Saturday games switched to Sundays the worst possible day, and having what was once the best pitch in Wales ruined. For us the County coming there is an absolute disaster. :-(
