Blackwood chief ‘excited’ with Swalec cup draw at Carmarthen

BLACKWOOD RFC Director of Rugby Matthew Back was excited at drawing Premiership Carmarthen Quins in the last eight of the Swalec Cup.

"It’s good to get a home draw and against a Premiership side it will make it a big occasion," said Back.

"To be honest we didn’t want Bargoed or Ebbw (the two remaining Championship sides in the draw) because we’ve played them already and are going to play them again so it’s nice to play someone different.

"I’m relieved we don’t have to go all the way out west, though and hopefully we’ll get a good crowd and it will be a big occasion.

"They’re all good sides left in the competition now and we are probably the lowliest left in the draw. Quins are an established Premiership side and are a good team, but on our day if we play to our best, who knows.

"It’s just going to be a good day and hopefully bring some revenue into the club too."

The draw in full for the Quarter-Final: Neath v Bargoed, Swansea v Aberavon, Blackwood v Carmarthen Quins, Ebbw Vale v Pontypridd.
