Risca 18 points Abercarn 13
RISCA hosted Abercarn at the Stores Field for their first game at home since Talywain on the 8th of December last year.
It was a different game to when Risca had a 42 point to 7 point bonus point victory on the 6th of October. This time, Risca had to grind out an 18 point to 13 point victory to get the double.
Abercarn dominated up front with a very heavy pack and just on ten minutes they scored an excellent try to take the lead. After tremendous Risca pressure, just on thirty-one minutes Risca got the penalty which Lloyd Mellens slotted over.
Just on the half time Abercarn replied with a penalty to make the half time score 3 points to 8 points to Abercarn.
Risca continued to dominate with some outstanding play by the back row Nick Davenport, Gareth Evans and Owain Peason, Nick Davenport made some great runs and his tackling was devastating.
With Risca dominating all the open play Abercarn gave away penalty after penalty and were made to pay with four more penalties by Lloyd Mellens taking his points score total to 109 points for the season.
Abercarn got a late try right on the final whistle.
Some outstanding performances by Rhys Meredith, Owain Peason and Gareth Evans but the man of the match performance was the outstanding Nick Davenport.
